20 High school girls took a field trip to Havener Capital

Friday was a big day in the halls of Havener. We threw a party to celebrate breaking things - like glass ceilings and stereotypes.

Havener RTSWS field trip

In partnership with Rock The Street, Wall Street, we welcomed 20 high school girls to our office to show them what a career path in finance could look like.

Laura Geritz, CFA hung out with us for a virtual chat, giving the girls a glimpse into a day in the life of a Portfolio Manager. In an industry full of "same," Laura stands out. She is good at what she does. She is also one of a small group of female fund managers. A stat that needs to change. Laura is not only a Portfolio Manager; she is also a founder in finance. {cue me slow clapping} Best part was watching Laura pound the table, saying, "Let's change the face of this industry!"

In addition to Laura, my dear friend, Amelia Garland, joined us, talking about life in financial media where she rocks the mic right and inspires an industry that needs to change how it rolls. She encouraged the girls to be brave enough to never stop asking questions.

These women are daring greatly in the arena. We were honored to welcome them into our office to share their stories with girls who need to hear it, including all of us.

The girls also spent time learning about jobs in operations, graphic design, and sales with Havener's own rockstars, Kaila McGreal, Alicia Purden, and Shannon Blair Taji.

I wish I had a day like this when I was in high school- with badass women like this who genuinely care.

Be the hero you needed when you were younger.
