Normalize everyone having a seat at… every table
I just set my Monday away message. It’s probably not what people expect. That’s okay, I’m not what people expect either.
4 years ago when my daughter was born, I was 40 years old. My work life was well-established - Founder/CEO of a multi-million dollar biz, President of an industry association, traveling weekly, closing deals, raising money.
My husband and I made a decision. I would take Mondays off to be with Willa. He would take Fridays off to be with her. We’ve never looked back. Of all the “meetings” we are in each week, these two days are most important. Because she is most important.
My email away message on Mondays looks like this:
There’s one to remind our internal team that family comes first. There’s one for external people - current clients, future clients, industry colleagues - to remind them that Mondays are for mommin'.
If that makes you think I’m not working hard enough or I’m not good at my job or my priorities are not aligned, you are wrong and we probs aren't a good fit.
This isn’t about women in the workplace. This is about humans in the workplace. People matter most.
Normalize everyone having a seat at the conference room table.
Normalize everyone having a seat at their kitchen table.
