But what do you stand against?

Don't talk about what you stand for. Talk about what you stand against.

Stand against

When you work on your website, your messaging, your brand, your marketing collateral, etc, some branding expert or helpful article will tell you, "Talk about what you stand for. Your values."

So we end up saying things like:

  • We stand for honesty and integrity.

  • We help our clients achieve their goals.

Umm ok but who doesn't?

We do the exercise that's supposed to help us stand out. Instead we look, feel, sound like everyone else. Let's not do that.

Instead, get a piece of paper. Start writing everything that comes to mind when I say…

What do you stand against?

  • What is broken in your industry?

  • What don't you like about how things are typically done?

  • What does the status quo believe that you don't agree with?

When we stand against something, we stand out to someone.

Don't be just another wealth manager.
Don't be just another fund company.
Don't be just another (insert your industry here).
