Magic = Making the hard things simple

2 new mutual funds in 2 years for 2 clients.
$150 mm+ of seed investor / early adopter capital.
Getting the funds on RIA platforms.
(That last one is a special kind of hell.)

Was it hard to do?
[Blink. Blink.]
Yes.

It was also simple. (I'm sorry. What?) Simple doesn't mean easy. Your magic is in applying your unique ability to the important things that other people find really hard. Like, can't do it hard. If you can solve that difficult thing? Bingo, bango.

Your magic can't be one hit wonder status. You aren't Vanilla Ice. Your magic needs to be repeatable.

You need to know what you are good at. No, what you are great at. The thing that very few others can do. The problem that you are uniquely able to solve. Do that thing for the people who have that problem.

  1. Unpack how you do it.

  2. Keep it simple.

  3. Repeat it.

Anything less than the best is a felony.

Once you've found your magic, determine its real value. In dollars. Make sure you and yours get yours. Sometimes we love what we do so much that we forget to get paid what we're worth. We all need that reminder now and then.
