Choose your own adventure
You need less prospects not more. (Yes, you read that right.)
Let's play a game.
I have two events. Pick which one you want to go to.
1. Keynote speech for 3,000 investors at a big industry conference
OR
2. Lunch with 10 early adopter investors at your fave restaurant
Typical portfolio manager takes the keynote. All. Day. Long. Portfolio managers speak numbers. They’ll be wowed by the size of the audience, do some multiplication to get the total AUM in the room, take some percentages to get the potential dollars in play. They “crush it” in meetings. Imagine how they’ll do on a big stage... They see $. And think they’ll get $.
Wrong answer.
Lunch at your favorite restaurant - where you feel comfortable. Where you’ll be smiling and chatting with your fave servers. Introducing them to your new investor friends. You’ll recommend your fave dishes. Talk about the chef and his story. Right before you tell yours. To 10 investors. Who actually want to hear it.
They’ll ask you questions. You’ll answer. You’ll ask them questions. They’ll answer. Maybe you share a laugh while you break bread. You can still do the math on the AUM at the table and the conversion on the dollars in play. The difference is you might actually get them.
People invest with people.
